One Reason to Rise : Begins New Chapter [Interview]

1r2r ONE REASON TO RISE

In the spotlight since the early days of the blog, One Reason To Rise quickly caught my attention on Instagram with their constant support in the scene and my own project.

Rising fast within a vibrant — yet always potentially interrupted — Bogotán punk scene, the trio, now approaching their 10th anniversary, shares with me their future ambitions, the challenges they face, and the musical milestones.

1. What kind of difficulties do you face when organizing concerts in your hometown of Bogotá?

To be honest, concerts in our city are very common, since there are plenty of venues, bands, and audiences. Bogotá - Colombia is establishing itself as a major destination for bands from all over the world across many different genres, so problems? There really aren't many.

2. So despite the fact that your music is positive and non-political, is there still a real risk that the authorities could cancel one of your shows at any moment?

The possibility is always there, almost everywhere. Although we don't directly address political issues, our songs and more specifically those on the new album encourage the listener to think and consider how every action and decision we make affects our lives, our relationships with others, and society as a whole.

3. Was there a local band that had a major influence on your decision to start your own band?

Yes, there are some excellent artists in this genre in Colombia, but we'd like to highlight a band called Tom Sawyer from Medellin, they had upbeat songs with great melodies and a lots of energy.

4. You'll be celebrating your tenth anniversary next year. Looking back, what are you most proud of since your beginnings?

What makes us most proud is that we've got to share our music with the whole world, and that we've done it all on our own through hard work, dedication, and perseverance from the very beginning.

5. And what is something you haven't accomplished yet since 2017 that you would really like to achieve?

We'd love to have the chance to play at the Punk Rock Holiday and go on tour outside of Colombia.

6. City Lights was your first self-produced album in 2023. With some distance now, what do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of that record?

The album has many strengths, including collaborations with several of our friends from around the world, positive lyrics, and a well-rounded selection of songs. The downside is that there are no physical copies available.

7. You're about to release your second album, "Lost & Found", through Sound Speed Records and Punk Rock Radar. In terms of writing and production, what sets it apart from City Lights?

The lyrical content is different; while there is a sense of optimism, the listener is encouraged to think, to be critical of their surroundings, and to understand that we are part of a species that holds the future in its hands. In terms of production, a great deal of effort went into achieving a fast-paced, powerful sound that conveys energy, speed, and strength.

8. The first single, "Rad Dad," seems to be about the bond between a father and son through punk rock. Is that the core theme of the song?

Yes. It's a song that came about during a conversation with my daughter, it's dedicated to all those amazing parents who work hard but, no matter how late they get home or how busy they are, always make time to be with their kids, share good music, laugh, and have a good time.

9. Besides the two singles already released, is there another track on the new album that you're particularly proud of writing?

All.

10. With this new record coming out, what does the rest of 2026 look like for you in terms of live shows?

We just played at the PUNKHOOD FESTIVAL, where we had the chance to share the stage with bands from Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and of course Colombia, and we'll continue with more events both big and small throughout 2026.

I believe this band will stay true to their determination to spread their music. No matter what obstacles they might face, their signing with these two labels and the release of Lost & Found make that pretty clear. The only question now is whether they’re ready to push their momentum even further — but given the context they’re evolving in, their tenacity seems firmly rooted to carry them into this new chapter.
